Green Chile Pie


This is a savory pie that is quite heavy, but equally as yummy.


  • skillet
  • pie dish
  • on oven large enough for the pie dish with >2” top clearance


  • 1lb ground meat
  • seasoning mix for meat
  • .5lb shredded cheese (mexican blend recommended)
  • 2 pie crusts
  • 1 can of green chiles
  • butter


  1. open and drain the chiles
  2. place one pie crust in the pie dish
  3. line the bottom of the pie crust with green chiles
  4. preheat oven to 350 degrees F


  1. brown the meat in the skillet
  2. add seasoning to meat
  3. place the cooked meat atop the green chile layer
  4. add the cheese on top of the meat
  5. invert the second pie crust and place it on top and seal it to the lower crust
  6. lightly butter the top
  7. bake for ~10 minutes until the crust browns


Serve in slices. An average sized human may be able to comfortably consume up to 25% of the pie in a sitting.


  • add chopped onion and/or peppers of various kinds to the meat
  • use another can of green chiles to add another layer on top of the cheese
  • seasoning mixes can vary from off-the-shelf to something more custom made
